How do I find the right robot for my needs?
Start with the job, not the robot. Decide what task you are automating, how much the payload weighs, how far the arm needs to reach, and what your budget is — those four answers eliminate most of the market. The finder above walks through them in order and returns matching models with verified prices. As a rough guide: repetitive factory tasks point to a collaborative robot arm, inspection and patrol point to a quadruped, food and hospitality delivery point to a service robot, and teaching points to a desktop educational arm.
What types of robots are there?
The main commercial categories are collaborative robot arms (cobots) for manufacturing and assembly; quadrupeds or "robot dogs" for inspection, security, and research; humanoids for research and emerging general-purpose work; service robots for food delivery, hospitality, and cleaning; and educational robots for classrooms and labs. We track models across all five, with components listed separately.
How much do robots cost?
Prices span an enormous range. Educational desktop arms start around $499–$999. Consumer robot dogs start at $1,600. Industrial collaborative robot arms run $5,749 to roughly $41,000. Commercial service robots cost $7,000–$25,000. Humanoids start near $4,900 and climb past $90,000, and industrial quadrupeds reach $76,900 and beyond. Are Chinese robots cheaper than Western equivalents?
Usually, though the gap varies by category. In collaborative robot arms the saving is large — 30% to over 80% for comparable payload and reach. In quadrupeds it is dramatic. In mass-market service robots the advantage has largely been competed away, with Chinese and Western models sitting in a similar retail band. We compare model against model rather than assuming a blanket discount.
