About the Hiwonder LeRobot SO-ARM101 Open-Source Robotic Arm
The SO-ARM101 is the hardware half of Hugging Face's LeRobot stack and the most important thing to happen to educational robot arms in years: a fully open-source, largely 3D-printed 6-DOF arm that costs under $300 and is natively supported by the LeRobot library. It ships as a leader-follower pair, so imitation learning — physically guiding the leader arm while the follower records the demonstration — works out of the box rather than requiring a custom rig. Hiwonder's build uses six high-torque bus servos with magnetic feedback (HX-10HM on the leader, HX-30HM on the follower) plus gripper-mounted and external cameras. What you are buying is a research and teaching platform, not a robot: there is no safety rating, no published repeatability, and the printed structure will not survive production duty. For learning modern robot-learning methods, nothing else is close on price.
